On his quest, he meets Jonas Wire (Brian Keith), a gunsmith who unsuccessfully tries to steer Max to surrender his vendetta. As a substitute, Wire teaches Sand how one can shoot, and the younger avenger makes use of that talent as he tracks down the killers one after the other, a bloody journey that takes younger Sand, now calling himself Nevada Smith, to Louisiana and again out West.
